Most of our daily journeys are short and can easily be completed on our own. Choosing to bike or walk for short trips brings many advantages:
- Stay healthy. With just a few minutes of active movement every day you will reach the recommended goal of 150 minutes of physical activity per week.
- Save money. Walking and cycling are the cheapest options to get from one place to another.
- Save time. Especially for short distances the bike might be the fastest option. No traffic jams, no searching for parking lots, etc.
- Clean air. When walking or cycling you leave no trace – the air stays clean, which is especially important in urban areas.
- Protect the environment. When you rely on your own body you hardly need any (fossil) resources and you don’t produce any waste.
- No noise. Noise affects human beings in a negative way. Walk or bike and let the birds sing!
- No worries. When you live completely car-free, you don’t need to worry about insurance, maintenance, fuel etc.
Nudge yourself to walk or bike:
- Wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
- Store an umbrella or a rain coat in the office, just in case.
- Keep your bike in good condition so that it is always ready when you need it.
- Study the map and check out which roads are the safest or explore new routes.
