Passing the Torch of Knowledge: Strategies for Book Donation

Behaviour wanted to change

Academics habit to collect to many printed books

Intention

I want to reduce collection of books I've read that I don't plan to read again in the future

Nudge Description

Donate books that can have a second life. Here are some recommendations on how to donate books that you no longer need:

  1. Contact your local public or community library to inquire about their book donation policies.
  2. Reach out to local schools, colleges, or universities.
  3. Community centers, youth centers, or cultural organizations may be interested in receiving book donations.
  4. Consider contributing to Little Free Libraries in your community. These are small, community-driven book-sharing stations where people can take a book and leave a book.
  5. Some hospitals, clinics, or healthcare facilities have waiting areas or patient lounges where donated books can provide entertainment and distraction.
Senior centers, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes often welcome book donations to provide residents with reading material.
  6. Look for non-profit organizations that focus on literacy or education.
  7. Offer books to friends, family members, or colleagues who might be interested in the subjects. Hosting a small book swap among your social circle is another way to share books.
